TAGAC Letter to District and School Board

TAGAC (the Talented and Gifted Advisory Council) recently sent a letter to PPS District Leaders and the School Board, and has given us permission to share it with the community. The letter highlights the critical role ACCESS Academy plays in meeting the needs of TAG students, calls out the many inaccuracies and omissions in the petition to close the school, and underscores how inappropriate and harmful it is for one group of parents to target another school community, especially in the absence of any public response or pushback from district leadership.

Letter to District Leaders - Concerns/request re: ACCESS petition

Recently, a small group of parents submitted a petition asking PPS to close ACCESS Academy—sparking serious concern from our community. In response, the ACCESS PTA sent a letter to district leaders calling out the petition’s misleading claims and emphasizing the critical role our school plays in serving highly gifted students, especially those from low-income families.

The letter highlights that demand for ACCESS has surged in recent years, and that closing the school would do nothing to solve broader district challenges like enrollment declines. Instead, it would remove a vital option without offering any alternative. The PTA is urging transparency from PPS and requesting a chance to be part of any conversations affecting our school’s future.
